About Lillyan:
My mother was a folk landscape artist and began taking me to pastel and oil painting classes when I was in first grade. I fell in love with art during those early years of my life.
After high school I moved to Western Washington to further my education in Fine Arts. I earned a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts with a Studio Art concentration in Oil Painting. While studying at Western Washington University I began work as a desktop publisher. My work in graphic design has influenced both my concern with layout and the method I use of layering materials in my paintings.
Artist Statement
I don't plan the process of painting, but instead surrender to chance. I work on a background painted in oils and then layer cut out drawings and patterned papers over the surface. The outcome is flat and yet the work maintains remarkable depth. My landscapes are riddled with fantastic creatures, some are innocent and some are corrupt. I weave these strange characters into an environment that has been described as tranquil and beautiful yet disturbing and dark. I term these strange landscapes - Naked Art.
